History of the Monastery
and St. Thomas church
The Augustine will feature more than 800 years of history in 5 buildings with historic features carefully preserved.

The monastery was founded in 1285 by Czech King Wenceslas II. Construction of the monastery was completed by 1379, along with St Thomas' Brewery and the Church of St Thomas and still contains a few early gothic features.
THE PAST
THE PRESENT
THE PROGRESS
The monastery was damaged by major fires in 1419 and 1541. Some renaissance features are related to the reconstruction in the late 16th century.

The current baroque form of the building complex is derived from the 1727 redesign and reconstruction by the well known representative of Czech baroque architecture, architect K.I. Dientzenhofer.
History of other buildings

The building "U Modrého klíče", (Blue Key) has been built in 16th century in renaissance style and went through baroque reconstruction at the beginning of 18th century. Many rooms have preserved renaissance and baroque ceilings, two rooms in upper floors feature wooden painted ceilings.

The last is the building, formerly owned by Ministry of interior, is dating back to the end of 16th century. Building, known as "U zlatého kohouta" (Golden Rooster) has a renaissance core, contains several renaissance painted ceilings and façade reminds us of its classicist reconstruction.
